Founder & Art Teacher
Hi, I’m Kate—welcome to The Art School, Chester!
As a qualified teacher and former Art educator in secondary high schools. I founded The Art School, Chester, to create a relaxed, inspiring space where creativity can flourish. Teaching is my passion, and I believe everyone has an artist within them—whether you're a beginner or experienced.
I'm also a mum to Arthur and Oliver, who you might see around the studio, along with our friendly border collie, Max. When I’m not teaching, I love spending time with my family or working on my own art.
I can’t wait to see what you create at The Art School!!
Meet The Team

Ruth Marsh
Art Teacher
With a warm and encouraging teaching style, Ruth has spent over two decades helping both children and adults discover the joy of creating art. She’s a qualified PGCE teacher and taught in some of the UK’s top schools, guiding students from their very first sketches to advanced fine art, textiles, product design, and even silver jewellery making!

Isobel Foley
Ceramic's Teacher
Isobel brings a warm, approachable style to her teaching, making the pottery wheel and clay studio feel like a place where everyone can relax, create, and learn. With a background in art, retail, and customer-focused roles, she has a natural ability to put people at ease and guide them step-by-step — whether they’re complete beginners or looking to refine their skills. Isobel’s teaching blends creativity with patience, helping students discover the joy of working with clay and the satisfaction of turning their ideas into beautiful, finished pieces.
